Soon to open, Crowne Plaza Melbourne Carlton is a vibrant cosmopolitan hotel located close to world-class universities in the heart of Melbourne's Innovation District, overlooking the beautiful Lincoln Square.
The hotel's mission includes the addition of "Fico", a stunning new Italian restaurant aiming to be Carlton's culinary destination.
We are looking for a Commis Chef to join a team of culinary professionals committed to their craft, dedicated to delivering the finest dishes and celebrating seasonal and locally sourced produce.
Day-to-day responsibilities
Assist in the preparation of a diverse range of meals, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special menu items, adhering to standardized recipes and portion sizes.
Ensure all food items are of the highest quality and cooked to the required specifications, maintaining consistency in taste, presentation, and texture.
Monitor and manage inventory levels of food and kitchen supplies, ensuring timely requisition of items as needed.
Maintain a clean and organized kitchen workspace, following proper sanitation and food safety guidelines.
Adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations, including safe food handling, storage, and preparation techniques.
Coordinate with other departments, such as banquet and catering, to fulfill special orders and dietary requirements.
Conduct regular quality control checks to ensure the freshness, taste, and appearance of food items.
Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure efficient food delivery and guest satisfaction.
Qualifications
Experience working in an Italian restaurant or with Italian cuisine will be highly regarded.
Hold a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and demonstrated experience in a similar role in a busy restaurant or hotel.
Sound working knowledge of various cooking techniques, ingredients, and kitchen equipment.
Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques and cooking methods.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and prioritise tasks effectively.
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with other departments and staff.
Commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene.
Passion for food and a desire to continuously learn and develop new skills.
