The Audit Risk and Improvement Committee reviews and provides independent advice to Council on how it manages risk, whether internal controls are working, and if the Council is functioning effectively.
* A quarterly meeting is held with an agreed fee paid to independent members for preparation and attendance.
* A criminal history check and financial status check will be conducted on the successful candidate.
To succeed in this role, a member must:
* Take a professional approach to responsibilities, including commitment of time and effort and participate in mandatory training.
* Understand the business, culture, and values of the council and stay informed about changes affecting operations and risks.
* Hold sufficient knowledge of the council's financial reporting obligations to contribute to the committee's consideration of annual reports.
* Be aware of the committee's role and the expectations of the council.
* Act in the best interests of the council.
* Maintain good communication and build effective relationships with the council and other committee members.
* Have the personal courage to raise and address challenging issues, express opinions frankly, ask questions that get to the core of the issue, and pursue independent lines of inquiry.
Attendance can be in person or through audio-visual link.
