The opportunity
This is a Senior Financial Accountant role for someone who genuinely enjoys being the guardian of "how things are done" in finance. Based in Newcastle, you'll sit at the core of the Aussie finance team, owning the balance sheet, tightening controls and making sure the numbers are ready for scrutiny at any time.
You'll also plug into a global finance function, working closely with the overseas team so that Australia's reporting, reconciliations and controls all move in step with the wider group. It's a role with real breadth: technical, hands‑on, business‑facing and a great platform if you like visibility, responsibility and a say in how the control environment runs.
Role Profile
* Take the lead on balance sheet integrity for the AU/NZ entities, making sure reconciliations are accurate, timely and supported by clean, well‑organised workpapers.
* Own statutory reporting and lodgement timetables across local entities, including indirect tax and other regulatory filings, so deadlines are consistently met.
* Act as the main contact for external auditors and tax advisers, coordinating information, answering queries and following through on agreed actions.
* Be the "go‑to" person in Australia for the global finance team, responding to queries, aligning local treatment with group policy and keeping reporting and compliance in sync.
* Help steer the ongoing finance systems journey to ensure local requirements are met and controls are embedded in processes.
* Coordinate month‑end and year‑end close activities, including review of journals, reconciliations, FX revaluations and audit files.
* Strengthen internal controls by spotting weaknesses, suggesting better ways of working and helping to bed those improvements into day‑to‑day practice.
* Support ad‑hoc projects and continuous improvement initiatives across finance, particularly where process, control and data quality are in focus
Successful Candidate Profile
* A CA/CPA‑qualified Senior Financial Accountant (or experienced Financial Accountant) with a solid background in audit, technical accounting or complex financial reporting.
* Very comfortable in a high‑volume, multi‑entity environment where accuracy, deadlines and documentation really matter.
* Someone who genuinely enjoys governance, controls and compliance. You like things reconciled, explainable and audit‑ready.
* Confident dealing with auditors and tax consultants, able to manage the flow of information and push for clarity where needed.
* Advanced in Excel and confident working with large data sets, multiple bank accounts and multi‑currency reconciliations.
* A clear, approachable communicator who can build strong working relationships locally and with colleagues overseas.
* Self‑starting, organised and detail‑focused, with the ability to work autonomously while contributing positively to a friendly, collaborative finance team.
If you're looking for a role where you can really own the control environment, be front‑and‑centre for audit and compliance, and work closely with a global finance team, this is an opportunity worth exploring.
