Employment Lawyer – Workplace Relations (9‐Month Contract)
Key Responsibilities
In this contract role, you will:
* Provide timely, pragmatic and commercially sound legal advice on employment law and workplace relations matters, operating with minimal supervision.
* Advise across the full employment lifecycle, including recruitment, performance management, disciplinary processes, terminations, redundancies and organisational change.
* Support workplace relations matters, including interpretation and application of the Fair Work Act, modern awards, enterprise agreements and related industrial instruments.
* Manage employment‐related disputes such as unfair dismissal, general protections and discrimination claims, liaising with external counsel as required.
* Lead or support workplace investigations relating to misconduct, grievances and compliance issues.
* Partner closely with HR / People & Culture teams and senior business stakeholders on both business‐as‐usual matters and time‐critical workforce initiatives.
* Apply sound judgment and strong commercial acumen to assess legal and employee‐relations risk in line with business objectives.
* Communicate complex employment and industrial relations issues clearly and effectively to non‐legal stakeholders.
* Contribute to knowledge sharing, precedent development and process improvement within the legal function during the contract period.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have:
* Admission to practise as a solicitor in an Australian jurisdiction, with a law degree or equivalent qualification from an Australian or other common law jurisdiction.
* Approximately 5-10 years' post‐qualification experience, gained in a leading law firm and/or in‐house legal team within a comparable commercial environment.
* Strong, hands‐on experience advising on employment law and workplace relations matters.
* Solid working knowledge of Australian employment and industrial relations legislation, including the Fair Work Act and related instruments.
* Proven ability to provide clear, practical advice to senior stakeholders in a fast‐paced environment.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder‐management skills, with a pragmatic and solutions‐focused approach.
* Availability to commit to a 9‐month contract.
