A rare leadership opportunity is available at Northern Peninsula Area State College (NPASC) for a Head of Department - Curriculum (Special Education), leading our high-needs P-6 Special Education Program, 'The Hub'.
This role is suited to an experienced and capable leader with strong current knowledge of inclusive education practices, legislation and departmental processes.
You will lead our committed staff within the Hub balancing direct teaching and student support with oversight of curriculum, safety and complex case management.
The Head of Department- Special Education works collaboratively with the College Leadership Team and is accountable to, and operates under the direction of, the College Principal or delegate.
This temporary vacancy is open to Expressions of Interest and any extensions to this appointment will not exceed 12 months.
Your Role
* Lead the operational management of the Hub space with a strong focus on student engagement, safety, regulation, and the physical, social, emotional wellbeing of students with complex support needs.
* Promote and embed socially just, and culturally responsive practices across daily school life.
* Support staff and students within the Hub environment through the consistent, safe, and evidence-informed implementation of specialised supports, adjustments and teaching practices.
* Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
* Form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
* Planning, delivering and modelling high-quality teaching and learning opportunities aligned with curriculum policies and provide opportunities for students to develop their social, physical and cultural strengths.
* Maintain a strong understanding of relevant legislation, policies and departmental processes relating to students with disability and complex support needs ensuring compliance and effective educational practice.
