For more than 20 years, Ararat Auto & Ag Services has proudly served our local community as an automotive repair business and is currently a Repco Authorised Service Centre. In 2011 we expanded to take on agricultural sales and service with a focus on Deutz Fahr and Kioti tractors, but we sell other agricultural machinery products too. Soon after we then became a Stihl and small engines sales and service dealer.
We're looking for a dedicated Workshop Manager to lead our team and keep our business moving forward. This role would suit a Service Manager looking to take a step up to leading the whole team. You would work closely with the Agriculture Service Manager while managing the day-to-day Light Vehicle service work of two mechanics.
There will be lots of variety in this role. We service and repair a diverse range of products including:
* Cars, 4WDs, tractors, small trucks, trailers, farm machinery & forklifts
* Deutz Fahr and Kioti dealer - tractor sales, servicing & repairs
* Silvan, Howard, John Berends, Burder - sales, servicing & repairs
* Vehicle LPG specialist
* Roadworthy inspections for light and heavy vehicles
About the Role
This is a hybrid position combining team leadership with customer service, day‑to‑day workshop coordination and the possibility of some hands‑on mechanical work. The role is predominantly in the automotive side of the business, but you will work closely with our agriculture team to ensure everything is well coordinated and running smoothly. You'll work closely with the owners to support a small team of mechanics and work cooperatively with our office administration person. You will play a critical role in managing our team and ensuring our service to customers is excellent. Ultimately you will help the business to grow through your sharp skills in management.
Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
* Lead, mentor and support a small team of mechanics
* Oversee all workshop administration, reporting and parts
* Be the first port of call for customers to book or discuss automotive jobs
* Coordinate daily automotive workshop operations and workflow
* Create written quotes and provide to customers
* Automotive customer invoicing and parts data entry
* Source and order automotive parts
* Provide support for mechanical tasks as required
* Uphold accreditation, compliance and safety standards
* Contribute to continuous improvement across systems, processes and workplace culture
* Work closely with business owners
* Be able to work independently & support management in their absence
The Skills and Experience You'll Bring
* Qualified Mechanic (preferred) with hands on experience
* Experience leading or supervising workshop staff
* 3-5 years of management experience with the ability to work under pressure
* Professional appearance and attitude
* Strong administration and computer skills
* Ability to balance workshop leadership with excellent customer service
* A commitment to safety, professionalism and high‑quality workmanship
* Attention to detail and thorough
* Australian work rights are required for this position
