Senior Mining Engineer - Underground Gold (Short & Long-Term Planning)
An opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Mining Engineer to join a well‑established underground hard‑rock gold operation in regional Victoria.
This is a key technical role responsible for short‑ and long‑term mine planning, stope and development design, scheduling, and reconciliation, working closely with geology, operations and technical services to ensure safe, efficient and predictable ore delivery.
The operation is seeking a residential candidate, with full relocation assistance provided to the Ballarat region. FIFO on a 4/3 roster will also be considered for the right individual.
The Role
Reporting to the Mining Manager, you will be accountable for the end‑to‑end planning, design and scheduling of underground mining activities, ensuring alignment between operational delivery, reserve conversion and longer‑term mine strategy.
Key Responsibilities
* Ownership of short‑ and long‑term mine planning, including weekly, quarterly and LOM plans
* Development, stope, drill and blast design for underground operations
* Conversion of Resources to Reserves through robust engineering design and sequencing
* Stope optimisation, reconciliation and performance analysis
* Scheduling and documentation of mining activities with variance reviews
* End‑of‑month reporting and reconciliation against plan and forecast
* Maintenance of accurate and up‑to‑date mining databases and mine designs
* Collaboration with geology and geotechnical teams to ensure appropriate ground support and sequencing
* Ventilation planning, surveys and reporting to support production continuity
* Delivery of special projects as required, on time and to budget
* Leadership in safety, compliance and continuous improvement across mining activities
About You
You are a technically strong underground mining engineer with a planning mindset, capable of balancing immediate production requirements with longer‑term mine value.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in Mining Engineering
* 5+ years underground mining experience, including senior‑level engineering exposure
* Demonstrated capability in short‑ and long‑term mine planning
* Strong experience in stope design, development design and reconciliation
* Sound understanding of drilling, blasting, sequencing and backfill integration
* Proven ability to deliver clear, achievable schedules to operational teams
* Experience with Deswik, MineSight and/or Surpac
* Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills
* Proactive, self‑driven approach suited to a small, professional technical team
* Previous exposure to contractor management (desirable)
* Current driver’s licence and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
