The Role
Gyprock continues to lead the industry through product innovation, strong technical foundations, and a commitment to quality that doesn't waver.
We're searching for a Senior Development Chemist who can keep that momentum going.
This is a hands-on role where the lab is your second home.
You'll shape product development, lift operational performance, and make sure Gyprock keeps setting the benchmark for the market.
Gyprock has an active pipeline of New Product Development (NPD) and Operational Improvement (OIP) projects.
These projects deliver measurable business improvements, including efficiency gains, enhanced value, and stronger market positioning.
Without someone strong in this seat, timelines slip, product launches stall, and key improvements grind to a halt.
In short—you make things happen.
Key Responsibilities
Working closely with the product management, lead strategic product development initiatives to enhance product performance and reinforce market positioning.
Identify and drive new product opportunities that deliver commercial value.
Develop end-to-end product development plans—from concept to commercial product.
Own and maintain material formulations, specifications, and standards.
Approve and validate new raw materials; supporting the procurement team with supplier evaluation.
Lead lab-scale formulation work, pilot batches, and factory trials.
Review intellectual property and patent landscapes to ensure compliance and protect innovation.
Assess competitor products and technologies to inform strategic planning and product development.
Leading operational improvement projects with measurable efficiency outcomes.
Compile and submit technical documentation to support R&D tax claims compliance and reporting requirements.
Working collaboratively with innovation, marketing, compliance, procurement and operations teams.
About You
Tertiary qualification in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
Previous experience in product development—preferably full life-cycle involvement.
Strong lab experience and comfort with research, formulation, testing and analysis.
Expertise in gypsum, cementitious products, adhesives, coatings or building products would be advantageous.
Proven project management skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
Strong compliance awareness and understanding of relevant standards.
An innovative mindset paired with a structured, standards-driven approach.
What we offer
Attractive salary and benefits, including access to exclusive discounts and offers.
Supportive and collaborative culture that fosters innovation and inclusion.
You'll be surrounded by talented colleagues who are passionate about their work and committed to helping each other succeed.
Care and wellbeing offer includes up to 14 weeks of paid parental leave, 52 weeks of superannuation payment, and access to an employee assistance program.
Rewarding career with on-the-job learning, development, and upskilling opportunities within and across our brands.
