Position Overview
The Infrastructure Support Engineer ensures the ongoing functionality and reliability of infrastructure that supports Bureau-managed observing equipment and facilities across a network of remote and urban sites.
A key focus of the role is infrastructure maintenance & support, which includes maintaining and managing:
Generator Systems
Battery Energy Storage Systems
UPS Systems
Buildi ng Management Systems
Air conditioning units
Facility upkeep
General IT and Electrical infrastructure
Note: The scope of the role excludes enterprise IT systems and regulated electrical work, which are managed by specialist teams.
In addition to day-to-day maintenance, the Infrastructure Support Engineer contributes to the planning and execution of infrastructure projects. This includes:
Assisting with infrastructure upgrades and modifications to meet evolving operational needs
Contributing to the development of standardised infrastructure solutions across the network
Identifying opportunities for efficiency, reliability, and sustainability improvements
Contributing to the Equipment Safety Reports and the Risk Assessment Process
The role involves regular interaction with a range of internal and external stakeholders. Key responsibilities include:
Working closely with the Infrastructure Network Manager to prioritise and coordinate tasks
Liaising with field staff, contractors, and other technical teams to ensure smooth execution of works
Communicating infrastructure requirements and constraints clearly to relevant parties
Ensuring that solutions align with operational and safety standards
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
A practical, hands-on approach to technical problem-solving
Experience working in remote or field-based environments
Familiarity with infrastructure systems relevant to facility management or technical operations
Strong organisational and communication skills
Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities
A collaborative mindset and commitment to continuous improvement
