THE ROLE

The Educational Assistant Level 3 (EA3) is a critical role within the educational institution that demands a high level of commitment, experience, and interpersonal skills. The EA3’s primary responsibility is to provide support to classroom teachers and other staff members in addressing the diverse learning needs of students. The EA3 serves as a resource person for teachers in designing and implementing instructional strategies that maximise student achievement and success.

The EA3’s role is instrumental in promoting inclusion and supporting the learning of all students, including those with special needs, and students with other challenges that may impact their learning. The EA3 works closely with classroom teachers to monitor student progress, identify learning gaps, and facilitate targeted interventions that enhance students' learning and progress.

To be successful in this role, the EA3 should possess strong advocacy of inclusive practices, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, an understanding of diverse learning needs, and a profound knowledge of evidence-based practices and trends in learning support services. The EA3 must be flexible, adaptive to change, and committed to continuous learning and professional development.

EXPERIENCE

Experience in supporting students in a classroom environment, with Special Educational Needs and Additional Learning Needs.

A minimum of 1-year experience

SKILLS

Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to build rapport and interact effectively at all levels of an organisation.

Well-organised and committed to inclusive practices at the College

Creative and energetic

Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines

Ability to provide in class support to students who have a specific learning disability such as dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia

Experience with implementation of literacy intervention programs, ideally Read3, MiniLit and MaqLit programs

Flexibility and ability to adapt and operate effectively in a challenging and changing environment.

Demonstrates a respect for, and acceptance of, difference in students, parents and staff.

Display empathy, enthusiasm and commitment, and is highly motivated to contribute.

Operates effectively in a collaborative team environment; establishes a rapport and builds strong relationships.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

The Key Selection Criteria that will be used to select the Senior School Learning Support Teaching Assistant and must be addressed in the application are:

Demonstrated respect for and commitment to the educational philosophy of the College

Experience supporting students in a school setting

Demonstrated ability to work successfully as part of a team of staff
