Joining Isis Central Sugar Mill Ltd offers an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the ongoing success of a well‑established and highly successful agribusiness and manufacturer. Raw sugar and molasses are produced for both domestic and export markets, and electricity is generated from renewable sources for factory operations and the national grid.
The company's operations are based near the historic township of Childers, which is 300 kilometres north of Brisbane and within easy driving distance of the regional centre of Bundaberg, as well as several coastal towns and villages. The region offers a relaxed lifestyle with an attractive sub‑tropical climate and serves as the gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef.
About the Company
Isis Central Sugar Mill Ltd is a fully owned Australian company operating a highly efficient sugar milling facility. It features a wide range of automated crushing and processing plant, as well as boilers, turbines, and generators that produce steam and electricity. During the sugarcane crushing season, which typically runs from June to December, the sugar mill operates continuously, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Outside of this period, when the plant is not in operation, an annual program of maintenance and capital projects is carried out.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, you will be responsible for managing a broad range of engineering and maintenance activities, from coordinating responses to breakdowns to implementing plant maintenance and reliability strategies and processes, as well as planning and executing capital and improvement projects. Ensuring that all assets are fully utilised efficiently and safely, and are compliant with relevant regulations and standards, also forms a key part of the role.
As Engineering Manager, you will lead and manage a mechanical engineering and maintenance workforce of approximately 50 during the crushing season and 100 during the non‑crushing season. This includes a team of up to 10 direct reports consisting of engineers, planners, and supervisors.
You will also need to work collaboratively with the Electrical Engineering, Production, and Cane Supply & Transport departments, as well as with senior management, regarding the development and implementation of strategic and business plans.
Key Position Requirements
* Qualifications at Bachelor or Associate Diploma level in the field of mechanical engineering and maintenance.
* Proven experience in engineering management overseeing maintenance, plant reliability, and capital projects in large‑scale manufacturing or similar operations.
* Highly effective leadership skills that combine the ability to motivate, mentor, and performance manage a mechanical engineering and maintenance workforce, including apprentices.
* Demonstrated high‑level technical knowledge and expertise in engineering, including resolving complex plant and equipment failure issues and developing effective asset management strategies.
* Proven ability to assume a leadership role in ensuring Health, Safety & Environmental procedures and practices are being embraced and adhered to.
* Experience in developing and overseeing maintenance and capital project budgets.
* Well‑developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to facilitate workplace meetings and prepare and present a wide range of reports and documentation.
* Proficiency in using computer systems and programs, including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (particularly SAP) and a variety of Microsoft applications.
* Relevant experience associated with sugar milling operations will be highly regarded.
* Candidates must be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents. Sponsorship is not available for this role.
