Primary objective
As a teacher and member of the HEAL team in the Katherine High School HEAL Annex, establish strong, effective, and trusting
relationships with staff and students. Ensure the integrity and fidelity of course delivery is maintained, while providing critical and
innovative feedback to NTSDE staff regarding the suitability and quality of course materials and assessment tasks. Maintain high
expectations of students and trial and pilot NTSDE program innovations and new course materials.
Context statement
The Northern Territory School of Distance Education (NTSDE) supports and delivers a range of educational services to students
residing in the Northern Territory, as well as those temporarily living interstate or overseas. NTSDE collaborates with home schools,
supporting educators to deliver high-quality, innovative, and flexible senior secondary online programs. Teachers are expected to
collaborate with peers to develop and deliver learning programs that align with the NTSDE Instructional Model. They must also be
prepared to travel, use advanced online technologies, and teach in both online and face-to-face modes.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Establish and maintain effective classroom practices, ensuring that NTSDE Teaching Programs are delivered as intended.
2. Support student success by fostering an orderly learning environment and implementing effective behaviour management
practices.
3. Provide for the physical, social, cultural, and emotional well-being and safety of students while at school.
4. Regularly assess students (diagnostic, formative, and summative) for developmental, feedback, and reporting purposes.
5. Maintain accurate student records and samples of work, and report on student performance to students, parents, the
department, and other stakeholders as required.
6. Establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships between the school, parents, and the wider community.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Knowledge and understanding of secondary school programs, with a demonstrated willingness to explore innovative strategies
to support student learning.
2. Proven self-management and organisational skills, with the ability to respond positively and effectively to organisational
change.
3. Demonstrated ability to build and sustain positive relationships, and to interact and communicate effectively in complex
environments.
4. Current registration with the NT Teacher Registration Board and a valid Working with Children Clearance Notice, or the ability
to obtain these.
Desirable
1. Previous experience working in a school with a low ICSEA and a high percentage of EAL/D learners.
