About theRole

Thisis a rare opportunity to work in a truly iconic public space,delivering first-class garden management in an inspiringlocation.

Spanning17-hectares, the PALMETUM BOTANIC GARDEN displaysone of the largest and most diverse public collections of palms inthe world. It is one of three botanical gardens inTownsville, boasting a palm collection containing all sixsubfamilies within the family Arecaceae.

Reporting to theTeam Leader Botanics, the Crew Leader is responsible for thedelivery of high-quality horticultural operations and the care ofcurated living collections across this popular botanicgarden.

Thisis a dynamic and influential role that supports good plant curationand landscape design, as well as biodiversity conservation,heritage protection and community well-being.

Thisrole will work from Palmetum Botanic Gardens Depot.

Aboutyou

Isthis the role you’re looking for? To be considered, youneed Certificate III in Horticulture or significant experience inmanaging on-ground operational crews in the delivery of allocatedHorticultural work activities. Experience in Botanical Gardens willbe highly regarded. You will also require the following:

- ConstructionSafety (White Card) (30215 QLD - Course in General SafetyInduction for the Construction Industry).
- "MR" classdriver's licence
- TrafficManagement Implementation (TMI) certified under the Manual ofUniform Traffic Control Devices (Part 3 2016)
- Knowledge ofthe capabilities and safe operation of a range of light plantand equipment including chainsaw
- FirstAid/CPR/Emergency Life Support Certificate
- AgriculturalChemical Distribution Certificate (ACDC)accreditation
- AccreditedChainsaw ticket (Level 2)
- VisualInspection Park Facilities accreditation

Youwill have demonstrated leadership, interpersonal and communicationskills with experience supervising field based or operational staffand providing technical advice and support in open spacemaintenance delivery related fields, a high level of oral andwritten communication skills with the ability to effectively andprofessionally engage with and influence others and excellentcustomer service skills with the ability to develop and maintainboth internal and external work relationships.

Youwill also have sound problem solving skills with the ability toachieve creative, effective and efficient solutions to challengesand changes and aworking knowledge of the Workplace Healthand Safety Act, advisory standards, industry codes of practice andall other associated legislation and guidelines relevant to theposition.
