About Application Services
The Application Services Program (AS) is responsible for the delivery and sustainment of ICT applications and platforms across the Bureau. The Program uses a combination of traditional software development life cycle (SDLC) approaches and modern Agile delivery methodologies to provide solutions for our customers and to simplify our ICT environment. The Program is supported by automated processes, including testing and quality assurance.
The Program provides critical support and preventative maintenance for applications supporting Aviation, Public Weather, Extreme Weather, Climate and Water sectors. The Program plays a significant role in supporting the delivery of the projects across the Bureau.
The AS Program aims to provide an outstanding customer experience for our Bureau colleagues and customers by delivering reliable and innovative solutions which are sustainable into the future.
Application Operational Services within the Application Services Program is responsible for providing critical ongoing support, preventative maintenance, and enhancements for applications supporting Climate, Water, and Weather sectors, delivering an excellent customer experience for our Bureau colleagues and customers by providing specialised IT application expertise and support, and providing deep domain IT technical expertise to support the successful delivery of projects.
Position Overview
As part of the Application Operational Services leadership team, you will apply your expert IT knowledge and leadership experience to provide an exceptional customer experience, lead employee engagement, drive operational excellence and continuous improvement.
You are someone who thrives on ensuring Information Technology Systems and Business services are stable and resilient and has a passion for the development of technology teams for IT Operations with a modernisation mindset driven by digital influences.
As an Application Operations Team Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing a Team of IT professionals within the Bureau whose charter is to keep the businesses applications running and operating 24/7 in an efficient manner, giving the business agility, and addressing operational needs quickly. You will support and optimise existing systems, bring into production new systems, oversee and direct the day-to-day activities of an application operational team ensuring that systems, services, and applications work reliably and securely.
To drive the expected results, you will build and support a cohesive team of strong contributors working together towards a common stable service orientated goal. You will have immaculate qualifications, be supremely analytical and an exceptional communicator. This role will have direct responsibility for managing, developing, and providing day to day leadership and oversight for an IT Application\'s Team within Application Operational Services.
Role responsibilities
The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
* Leadership and management of an IT Applications Team. Highly effective leader with expertise in building cohesive high performing teams, elevates and develops team members through mentoring, coaching and knowledge sharing.
* Provide technical leadership across a portfolio of applications / support services, supporting a range of projects from initiation, inflight and transition to operations, and end state operations.
* Supervise and participate in software development, enhancements, deployment, and proactive preventive maintenance, including the successful rollout of patches and software releases to maintain application service stability and improve the availability of services.
* Technical leadership and management of vendors and partners providing software across the application portfolio ensuring contract needs and system licencing requirements are met.
* Foster and instil ITIL Service Management and ISO Quality Management System practices and procedures within the IT Applications Team in line with Bureau practices.
* Compile and maintain a best practice Knowledge repository for applications within the area of control, and ensure application and system knowledge, skill and experience is kept current within the IT Applications Team.
* Collaborate with the Applications Operational Services leadership team to identify, influence, and implement technology, process, and skill changes to modernise Application Operational Services.
* Key escalation point for any technical issues that appear within the applications remit, liaising with IT Command Centre, resolver groups, Bureau software applications partners, project managers and the application owners for prompt rectification of issues or emergencies.
* Manage application production outages and escalations end-to-end, ensuring the appropriate stakeholders are involved to drive resolution, communicating to impacted business units, gather data on impact to systems and business, and report on impacts to leadership teams.
* Collaborate within Data & Digital Group (DDG), Application Services, and business senior leadership to ensure transparent communication, recovery plans in the time of crisis, taking ownership of post-mortem results with preventive measures and service improvement plans
* Management and reporting of application-set performance including availability, resilience and reliability, and technology risks and issues associated to applications within the portfolio.
* Other duties as required.
* Available for After-Hours roster restriction as an escalation manager.
* Complying with all Bureau work, health and safety policies and procedures, and taking reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of employees, contractors and visitors who may be affected by your conduct.
