Primary objective
Provide high level advice on protocol matters, as well as ensuring the delivery of highest quality ceremonial and hospitality activities
on behalf of the Northern Territory Government (NTG).
Context statement
Protocol NT plays a key role in enhancing the reputation of the Northern Territory and our stakeholders through enabling
interaction of NTG officials with a broad range of local, national, and international protocol and ceremonial requirements.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Project manage all aspects of ceremonial and hospitality event coordination including catering, supervision of casual staff and
performing Master of Ceremony duties as required.
2. Greet guests at events and interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
3. Provide expert advice to the Chief Minister, Ministers, senior government officials and agencies, the business community and
the general public on protocol and ceremonial matters.
4. Identify potential risks and ensure appropriate measures are in place for all activities.
5. Prepare formal invitations, manage RSVP's, provide comprehensive event running sheets, event debriefs, and Ministerial
correspondence as required.
6. Arrange dignitary visits, prepare programs, and accompany dignitaries during their visit to the Northern Territory.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated understanding of ceremonial and hospitality services and able to provide expert advice on matters of
protocol and procedure to stakeholders and the general public.
2. Proven successful experience in project or event management in the ceremonial or hospitality spheres, with the ability to
supervise staff.
3. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with people of diverse cultures on all levels.
both within and outside of Government.
4. Proven organisational and negotiation skills, with the ability to work under pressure without supervision in order to
manage multiple tasks and demands, while maintaining a solid attention to accuracy and detail.
5. Proven ability to perform Master of Ceremony duties.
6. High level awareness of the need for tact, diplomacy, and proven political insight.
7. Comprehensive computer skills including word processing, data base, records management, and email.
8. High standard of personal grooming and presentation, reflecting personal qualities of reliability, integrity, discretion and
confidentiality.
Desirable
1. Qualification in event or project management.
2. Extensive hospitality industry experience.
3. Provide First Aid Certificate.
