Position Summary:
Coogee Continental Deli has been slicing and making sandwiches, for over 20 years. In the last 10 years, we have been modernising and brining this old school deli, into world of foodie lovers. The Delicatessen Assistant & Sandwich Maker plays a crucial role in providing exceptional customer service while assisting in the day-to-day operations of the delicatessen. This position is responsible for preparing a variety of fresh sandwiches, salads, and deli products, maintaining high standards of hygiene, and ensuring customers receive quality, made-to-order food in a timely manner. This role also involves assisting with stock management, food preparation, and maintaining a clean, organized, and inviting work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Sandwich Preparation: Prepare and assemble a wide variety of sandwiches, wraps, and salads according to customer preferences or standard recipes while ensuring consistency, quality, and presentation.
* Customer Service: Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient service to all customers, taking orders, answering inquiries, and offering recommendations.
* Deli Counter Support: Assist with cutting meats, cheeses, and other deli products to customer specifications. Weigh, slice, and pack deli items with attention to detail and accuracy.
* Food Preparation: Help with the preparation of other deli offerings, such as salads, cold cuts, soups, and hot foods, following health and safety standards.
* Stock Management: Monitor product levels, assist with stock rotation, and inform supervisors of inventory needs to ensure the deli section is fully stocked and organized.
* Cleanliness and Safety: Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitized work environment, adhering to all food safety guidelines and sanitation regulations.
* Equipment Maintenance: Operate deli equipment, such as slicers, ovens, and refrigerators, in a safe manner and assist with regular cleaning and maintenance.
* Team Collaboration: Work as part of a team to meet operational goals and ensure a seamless customer experience, particularly during busy periods.
* Upselling and Product Knowledge: Educate customers on product offerings, promotions, and specials, and encourage sales of complementary items.
Skills and Qualifications:
* Previous experience in food service, particularly in a delicatessen or sandwich-making environment, is preferred but not required.
* Strong customer service skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality standards.
* Attention to detail in food preparation, presentation, and hygiene.
* Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
* Ability to lift and carry heavy items, and stand for extended periods.
* Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
* Flexibility in working hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed..
