Position Title: Aboriginal Education Engagement Facilitator (50D)

Reports to: Connected Beginnings – Initiative Leader

Employment Status: Contractual Part Time (30 hours/week)

Closing Time: Friday, 27th March 2026 at 5pm AWST

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Aboriginal Education Engagement Facilitator will work within a diverse Connected Beginnings team to build supportive relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and use proactive strategies to raise awareness of the value of early childhood education. In this role you will be required to be flexible to meet the changing needs of families and community. The Aboriginal Education Engagement Facilitator, in collaboration with the Connected Beginnings team will strengthen links between education sites, community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.

ABOUT CONNECTED BEGINNINGS - GERALDTON

The vision of the Connected Beginnings Program is to provide all children with a great start by improving their wellbeing prior to school, with a specific focus across education, health, and family services. The initiative will particularly address the needs specific to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families living in Geraldton using a collective impact approach to determine unique and community-owned goals and strategies to connect families to support services and improve the ability of children to achieve a positive transition to school.

The Aboriginal Engagement Facilitator will be employed by Bundiyarra to fulfil a role as part of the Connected Beginnings Backbone Team for Geraldton.

Bundiyarra is a Community based non-for-profit overseen by a Board of Governance and operationally managed by a Chief Executer Officer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Understand and strive to achieve the vision and values of the Connected Beginnings Initiative.
* Participate in Bundiyarra Staff Meetings, training and activities as required.
* Operate as a valuable member of the Connected Beginnings Backbone Team.
* Attend regular Team Meetings.
* Collect data as directed by the Initiative Leader and provide this to the Initiative Data Officer on a weekly basis for data entry.
* Establish and maintain connections with existing reference groups.
* Provide support to the Initiative Leader and Backbone Team in facilitating community engagement activities.
* Provide assistance on Grant Applications including basic research or collection of data.
* Foster the inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives in local Advisory and working groups.
* Provide sound cultural and community advice to all stakeholders regarding culturally appropriate practice in the delivery of an integrated service system across health, education, and family services.
* Identify and communicate gaps, needs and solutions for families to engage with health, education, and family services.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

* Demonstrated successful experience in fostering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Leadership in partnership and governance arrangements including experience of health, early childhood and family service providers and the needs of children and families in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
* An ability to demonstrate high-level and comprehensive understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues, knowledge and culture, and proven ability to apply this in practice, including supporting and influencing other services in culturally safe practice.
* Demonstrated successful experience in participating in community development that targets whole of community change for children and families and contributes to improved educational outcomes for young children.
* Well-developed verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and community groups, work successfully in a small team and maintain broad professional networks.
* Knowledge of programs that support culturally appropriate practice in the delivery of an integrated service system across health, education and family services.
* Sound knowledge of the relevant legislation and policies of both the national and WA governments in relation to the delivery of integrated services and early childhood programs.
* Proficiency in using Microsoft Office 365 programs – particularly Excel, Outlook and Word.
* Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
* A demonstrated capacity to work in a highly functional team environment.
* Tertiary qualifications in community development, governance, social work, public health, or education.
* Cert III in Childcare or willingness to obtain.
* Understanding of children's services, funding, and gaps in current service delivery environment.
* Existing relationships with a range of stakeholders in the local and regional area.
* Knowledge and experience of the Collective Impact Approach.

Other Essential Requirements

* Class C Driver's License.
* Satisfactory Police Check
* Working with Children's Check
* You must meet any other conditions required from time to time by Bundiyarra's funding provider(s) relevant to the performance of your duties.

PERFORMANCE GOALS AND MONITORING

* All Bundiyarra employees participate in regular Line Management Meetings with the aim of monitoring performance, providing support, and fostering continuous improvement.
* All Bundiyarra employees will undertake appraisal processes after a 6-month probation period and then on an annual basis – appraisals are conducted by the relevant Line Manager.
* All Bundiyarra programs are required to submit monthly Board Reports and Funding Reports in accordance with service agreement requirements to ensure targeted progress toward KPIs is attained.
* Activities conducted within the Connected Beginnings program will be subject to reflection and evaluation upon completion.
