Job Description
As a Senior Payroll Officer, you will play an integral role in managing the end-to-end payroll process for the organisation's workforce. This is a pivotal position that requires accuracy and reliability.
* Ensure all new personnel are correctly authorised on the payroll system and comprehensive tax documentation is accurately prepared for each employee.
* Review weekly and fortnightly timesheets for accuracy, including calculating extended hours when applicable, to guarantee precise wage payments.
* Calculate wages, salaries, allowances, leave entitlements, and final payments upon termination with meticulous attention to detail.
* Oversee the correct remittance of tax obligations and other employee deductions in compliance with relevant legislation and company policies.
* Reconcile payroll runs regularly and provide detailed reporting on results to key stakeholders within the Finance department.
* Process payroll tax efficiently and ensure superannuation contributions are managed through the appropriate clearing house channels.
* Liaise effectively with external payroll agencies as required to maintain seamless payroll operations across different business units.
* Administer Enterprise Bargaining Agreement Long Service Leave (EBA LSL) processes for various states, ensuring compliance with differing legislative requirements.
* Verify end-of-month payroll payments and support junior payroll employees by providing guidance and sharing best practices.
Required Skills and Qualifications
This role requires proven experience managing complex payroll functions where accuracy is non-negotiable. You should have:
* Demonstrated experience in a similar payroll position within a medium or large organisation where accuracy and reliability were paramount.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with advanced Excel skills that enable you to manage data efficiently and produce clear reports.
* Familiarity with Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting requirements as well as pay code setup processes within modern payroll systems.
* Exposure to ADP or similar payroll software would be advantageous but is not essential for success in this role.
* Excellent communication skills that allow you to build rapport across departments and explain complex information clearly when liaising with both internal teams and external agencies.
