The Opportunity: Data Center Technician
This role is a unique opportunity to work in one of the most advanced data centers in the world. Amazon data centers are large‐scale high‐density centers where you will be working on changing the face of technology in the region.
Key Responsibilities
* Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external customers, including Engineers, Systems Engineers, Software Developers, Database Engineers, Technical Operations, Vendors, Contractors, Service Providers.
* Act as escalation point and technical troubleshooter for all systems and problems.
* Perform deep dives into server issues and troubleshoot XEN service virtualization.
* Remediate physical layer outages for systems and network, recover physical power issues on racks, and participate in data‐center power & cooling events.
* Meet 24x7 on‐call requirements and respond during shift rotations.
* Install and configure racks of hosts in line with internal SLAs; triage and resolve trouble tickets for all devices in the region.
* Act as data‐center point of contact for all high‐severity issues and physically replace server and network device parts.
* Ensure correct rotation of parts and spares; help define metrics to increase customer uptime.
* Enforce Amazon's security best practices; interact with third‐party vendors and contractors.
* Contribute ideas to improve operational efficiency; engage with Remote Hands & Eyes in EU Regional CloudFront POPs.
Project Management
* Participate in and deliver on a number of high‐impact small‐to‐mid‐scale projects.
* Participate in team meetings for metric analysis and project status updates.
* Help build the world's largest cloud infrastructure.
Mentoring & Hiring
* Share knowledge and help educate less technical staff on best practices related to service owner issues.
* Contribute towards building a great team by engaging in the hiring process and candidate interviews.
Basic Qualifications
* 2+ years of computer hardware troubleshooting and repair experience.
* 1+ years of computer networking experience.
* High school or equivalent diploma.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience dealing effectively with customers during problem resolution and operating efficiently under pressure.
