Overview
Alfred Cancer are seeking Administrative Patient Navigators who are an integral part of the haematology/medical oncology multi-disciplinary team, playing an important role in providing the first line response to incoming calls from patients, carers and referrers in the community. They are an expert in supporting patient flow through the cancer care system and in facilitating timely patient access. This role is a direct support to both Clinical Nurse Consultants and Nurse Practitioners working within Haematology or Medical Oncology.
Permanent position • Full time (76 hours per fortnight) • Located at The Alfred • Managers and Administrative Worker Grade 2 Level 1 (HS2) Note: On 1 January 2026, Alfred Health will merge with other health services to form Bayside Health; subject to final approval, employees may transfer to Bayside Health.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the first line response to incoming calls from patients, carers and referrers in the community
- Support patient flow through the cancer care system and facilitate timely patient access
- Provide administrative support for multidisciplinary team meetings
- Ensure patient appointments are scheduled and billed appropriately
- Directly support Clinical Nurse Consultants and Nurse Practitioners in Haematology or Medical Oncology
Skills and Experience Required
- Personable, customer focused approach and commitment to high quality service
- Health service administration experience including Health IT systems (e.g., EMR, iPM)
- Excellent communication skills for interaction with a large skilled team
- Strong time management and interpersonal skills
- Motivated, enthusiastic with a positive attitude
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point)
- Sound administrative and organisational skills with experience in day-to-day accounts and reporting
- Ability to handle a variety of administrative duties and maintain confidentiality
- Understanding of VINAH data collection
