The Mental Health Hospital in the Home (MHHITH) is a virtual ward of the Royal Hobart Hospital, providing acute care for patients at their residence as a substitute for in-hospital acute care. MHHITH is a 7 day a week service, available to adult consumers of Statewide Mental Health Service, and operates from 0700 to 2230.
The Role
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a senior member of the team and is often the lead on shifts. Responsibilities include receiving handovers, allocating tasks for the day, responding to clinical calls, and providing leadership through education, safety and quality activities. The CNS supports junior team members and plays a key role in fostering multidisciplinary collaboration.
Responsibilities
* Take charge of shift handovers and task allocation.
* Respond to clinical calls and coordinate care during shifts.
* Provide leadership through education, safety, and quality initiatives.
* Support junior nursing staff and facilitate multidisciplinary teamwork.
Qualifications
* Minimum five years post‐graduate clinical nursing experience directly applicable to mental health settings.
* Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation and awards including the Mental Health Act, Right to Information Act, Work Health and Safety Act, and departmental procedures and policies.
* Highly developed interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, negotiation and conflict resolution abilities.
* Proven ability to work constructively as part of a multidisciplinary team at both service and community levels.
Appointment Details
Permanent, part‐time shift worker position (fully rotational), working 38 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. Hours are subject to negotiation with the successful applicant.
Salary and Benefits
Salary range: $109,767 to $115,813 per annum (pro‐rata). Additional Superannuation contribution of 12% is provided on top of this amount. Salary is in accordance with the Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023. Post‐graduate allowance up to 10% is available based on qualification type.

Eligibility
* Registered as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia and possess a specialist tertiary graduate or post‐graduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualification, or have completed a relevant accredited hospital‐based program that led to registration as a psychiatric nurse.
* Current driver's licence.
* Desirable: Extensive acute and community psychiatric nursing experience and/or credentialing as a Mental Health Nurse by the Australian and New Zealand College of Mental Health Nurses Inc. or equivalent.
* Desirable: Hold or be working towards relevant tertiary qualifications.
