**Project Summary**:
Bechtel, a global leader in project management, engineering, procurement, and construction, has been selected by Western Sydney Airport Co as its Delivery Partner for the Western Sydney Airport, a $5.3 billion greenfield facility in Badgerys Creek, New South Wales. This will be a landmark project for both New South Wales and Australia and is due for completion at the end of 2026.
**Job Summary**:
- The WHS Manager is responsible to support the Delivery Partner team in delivering safety and to proactively assure the contractors adhere to their contract obligations and monitor and enforce the health and safety requirements.
- The WHS Manager is required to be fully familiar with the contract terms, health and safety requirements, and various contractor WHS Management Plans.
- The WHS Manager works pro-actively with the Delivery Partner, customer, and contractor team members to relentlessly drive our goal of zero incidents across the Project.
- The WHS Manager supports global business unit level goals and objectives for ES&H (Environmental Safety and Health). Integrates all aspects of Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) processes, procedures, systems, methods, and policies critical to the success of WHS on the project.
**Work Location**:This role is located in Badgerys Creek, NSW.
**Responsibilities**:
- Guides, coaches, and motivates WHS team performance and those directly associated with implementing WHS processes, procedures, systems, methods, and policies critical to the success of WHS on project.
- Promotes integrity, technical competence, and commitment to WHS on project.
- Monitoring and reporting on the WHS management program.
- Monitors health and safety reviews of project construction activities to monitor compliance with requirements including contractual commitments, contractor WHS management plans, permits, and other applicable standards.
- Provides technical support to feasibility studies, site assessment studies, and project risk assessments.
- Coordinates appropriate consideration of WHS requirements with contract, engineering, and construction teams.
- Ensures that WHS plans are developed and implemented for the project or facilities within their area of responsibility in accordance with established policies, systems, processes, procedures and methods, client requirements and regulations.
- Provides operational direction and functional supervision of work practices of the Delivery Partner WHS team.
- Leads meetings, as necessary, with the customer, project team members, and contractors to communicate project-specific WHS mitigation plans, training programs, and complex technical reports.
- Stops work in dangerous situations or conditions having imminent adverse WHS impact. Stipulates acceptable work practices that are to be implemented before the work can be resumed. Manages personnel activities, such as recruitment, policy administration or employee development.
- Manages and conducts project serious accident and/or fatality investigations and notifications; documents factors contributing to an incident and ensures the preparation of required reports.
- Participates, as directed by the Manager of Corporate WHS, project management and Legal and Risk Management, at hearings or litigations involving recent or past injuries, accidents or work-related illnesses that occurred on projects.
- Manages cross-training of personnel in professional or discipline-specific skills, techniques, and procedures.
- Interprets applicable WHS standards and supervises their integration into an area of responsibility. Ensures that host country, client and Bechtel standards are integrated into a single document.
- Executes other WHS duties as assigned by Corporate ES&H, GBU (GLOBAL BUSINESS UNIT), and functional management.
