Located in the Goulburn Valley Region, Lancaster Farms is home to Premier Fresh Australia's 5-hectare retractable roof gourmet tomato hydroponic greenhouse. The site is situated approximately 30 km west of Shepparton, Victoria, and 10 km east of Kyabram.
We are seeking a hands-on and capable Agronomist to join our Greenhouse team. This is a critical role providing direct support and assistance to the Farm General Manager in managing greenhouse production, monitoring crops to achieve budget, greenhouse climate, water resources, crop nutrition, and pest/disease management to produce successful crops.
Reporting to the Farm General Manager, some of your key responsibilities will include:
1. Oversee and manage Greenhouse staff operations in accordance with operational labour needs, ensuring Crop Work staff are fully trained and understand health & safety policies & procedures.
2. Collect and analyze data and samples of produce, fertilisers, soil, and other factors affecting production to maximise yield targets and quality standards.
3. Monitor environmental factors affecting crop production and provide recommendations for cultivation techniques, soils, insects, and plant diseases.
4. Advise management on issues such as crop disease, pest and weed control, soil improvement, and techniques for enhancing crop production.
5. Develop procedures and techniques for solving horticultural problems and improving production efficiency.
6. Develop and implement agronomic strategies to maximise crop yield and quality.
7. Provide expert advice on pest and disease management, and nutrient management.
8. Conduct crop health assessments and identify opportunities for improvement.
9. Monitor irrigation and fertilisation programs to ensure optimal growth conditions.
10. Conduct greenhouse trials to create new knowledge and overcome technical challenges affecting yield and fruit quality.
11. Stay up-to-date with the latest agricultural trends and innovations, integrating them into farming practices.
12. Perform ad hoc administrative duties as required.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
1. A minimum bachelor degree in agronomy, agricultural science, or a related field; a master's degree is highly regarded.
2. At least 3 years' experience in a similar role.
3. Competency with learning new systems and software.
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
5. A high level of attention to detail.
6. Current Australian driver's license and forklift license.
