As a Medical Officer on the health services team at Acacia Correctional Centre, you'll make a positive impact by promoting the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates, ensure the safety and security of inmates and the community and provide a respectful environment to inmates.
As a Medical Officer in the Health Services team, you'll make a positive impact by:
- Providing high-quality medical care within a multidisciplinary team
- Refer inmates to external providers when care needs exceed the Centre's capabilities, and review progress and outcomes promptly
- Provide skilled health assessments, diagnosis and treatment services to inmates
- Educating inmates on health and lifestyle choices
- Take responsibility for, or contribute to the clinical supervision of Nurse Practitioners/Clinical placements
- Supporting patient reintegration into the community
- Ensuring continuity of care for a diverse custodial population
- Working closely with correctional staff to deliver integrated care
To be successful in this role you'll have:
- Unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA
- Possess a degree in Medicine from a recognised tertiary institution
- Be recognised as a Fellow or working towards the same with RACGP
- Current Life Support certification/ALS
- Experience in Primary Care, Mental Health, Drug & Alcohol and Emergency care
- Ability to provide appropriate diagnosis and treatment
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to effectively communicate in both oral and written forms
- Cultural awareness and the ability to work with diverse populations
