Melbourne (Hybrid - Very Flexible) | React, TypeScript.
We're partnering with a global journey planning platform that helps millions of people every day figure out how to get anywhere in the world.
They're hiring a Senior Frontend Engineer to join their search platform team. This is a backend-heavy team that needs a strong frontend voice to own user-facing features end-to-end. This is about architectural decisions, technical leadership, and shipping features that millions of people rely on.
What you'll work on
* Build new search experiences - Next 6 months: 50-60% new features (attractions & things to do), 40-50% improvements
* Own frontend architecture - Make technical decisions, contribute to RFCs, define how the team builds
* Work with their design system - Build polished React/TypeScript components from designs
* Collaborate across the stack - Partner with backend engineers, occasionally touch .NET/C# to unblock yourself
* Mentor and elevate - Code reviews, pairing, helping mid-level engineers level up
Immediate priority: ramp up on their React codebase, then lead development of a new partner integration around travel experiences.
What we're looking for
Must-haves:
* Strong React and TypeScript - modern hooks-based patterns, complex UIs
* Architectural thinking - You've made technical decisions that affected how teams build
* High ownership - You define it broadly: monitoring, docs, helping teammates, not just shipping code
* Willing to touch backend - Pragmatic enough to make small .NET/C# changes when needed
* Mentorship experience - Code review, pairing, teaching
* Design system experience - Working from designs and component libraries
Nice to have:
* SSR frameworks (Next.js, Remix, Marko.js)
* Performance optimisation for data-heavy UIs
Culture fit:
* Comfortable with ambiguity and informal processes
* Curious and willing to learn outside your domain
* Uses AI tools pragmatically (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT)
Impact & scale:
* Millions of daily users at peak season
* ~40 engineers total - small enough to influence, stable enough to be sustainable
Technical environment:
* Technical leadership opportunities (RFCs, architecture decisions)
Ways of working:
* Some pods run Kanban, some sprints - teams choose
* Daily standups, PR reviews, occasional pairing
Frontend: React, TypeScript, Marko.js (SSR), Design system
Tooling: GitHub Actions, Jira (lightweight), Confluence
