Biosecurity Officer

Salary: $65,409 - $89,661 (plus superannuation)

Please note: Due to Machinery of Government changes under Section 30 of the Public Administration Act (PAA), effective 1 January 2023, your employment will be with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action. Corporate Services, including payroll, will be provided by the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions while a process for the formal transfer of staff in impacted areas is implemented.
The Biosecurity Officer in the Plants Chemicals and Invasives Unit within Agriculture Victoria supports the Victorian community with preparing for and managing the impacts of biosecurity. Located across Victoria to support community and industry with invasive plant and animal management, plant biosecurity, pest and disease surveillance to enable market access, monitoring of chemical use in the agriculture sector, and preparing for and responding to biosecurity and agricultural relief emergencies. The position will have key responsibilities under the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994, and will also be required to deliver activities as required, under the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals (Control of Use) Act 1992, the Plant Biosecurity Act 2010 (Limited Powers), and the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances Act 1981 to support priority operational delivery.
As this is a regulatory position, you will be provided with training to obtain a Certificate IV in Government Investigations and will be required to conduct investigations and may be requested to appear in court. We are looking for energetic, thoughtful and have enthusiasm for working within a diverse regional team to deliver quality services to the Victorian community. You will work effectively as a member of a team, enjoy flexible working arrangements and undertake a wide variety of work to support interoperability across the business, including establishing strong working relationships with internal staff and various external stakeholders including private landowners, community and industry groups and local government agencies.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
1. Tertiary degree in Agricultural Science, Science or an equivalent science qualification.
This is an ongoing position available with a work location of Ballarat or Bacchus Marsh and hybrid work arrangements available.
