What You'll Do
As the Head of Applications, you’ll lead the delivery and operation of our application portfolio – including portals, core business systems, integration layers, and mobile experiences. This role combines leadership with hands‑on technical direction: you’ll set standards, lead teams, guide architecture and delivery, and work closely with Product, Data, Infrastructure, and Operations to ensure our applications are reliable, secure, and aligned with business priorities.
* Lead the applications roadmap and technical direction, translating business strategy into clear initiatives while setting engineering standards, documentation expectations and delivery discipline.
* Coach and develop the Delivery Lead and Senior Engineers, setting clear engineering standards and driving squad prioritisation aligned to capacity and business values.
* Oversee end‑to‑end delivery of Trilogy Care’s application portfolio, including portals, client and workforce tools, and internal systems, and ensuring clear backlogs, scope, acceptance criteria.
* Partner with AI and Data teams to embed practical AI into applications, championing automation across testing, deployment and support, and supporting adoption of tools like Claude Code, GitHub Copilot and AI‑driven quality checks.
* Define and uphold reference architectures and engineering quality, reviewing designs for scalability, reliability and security, contributing to complex technical decisions, and guiding use of modern web, mobile and backend frameworks. Guide use of modern web and mobile frameworks (e.g. React, React Native, Vue, Next.js) and backend stacks (Node, PHP/Laravel or similar).
* Own application SLAs, error budgets and key reliability measures, work with teams on monitoring, alerting and incident response, oversee release management and environment strategy, and ensure a strong security posture across authentication, authorisation and data handling.
* Build strong stakeholder and vendor relationships, communicating roadmaps, risks and trade‑offs clearly, and ensuring external partners and deliverables align with Trilogy Care’s standards.
What You'll Bring
* 8+ years in software engineering with at least 3+ years in a leadership role (e.g. Engineering Manager, Head of Applications, Principal Engineer).
* Experience leading delivery of complex web or mobile applications in a product environment, with strong architectural design capability.
* Strong coaching, feedback and leadership approach, with experience guiding cross‑functional engineering teams and supporting delivery staff.
* Experience running agile or hybrid delivery models, including backlog management, stakeholder engagement and structured requirements/analysis practices.
* Exposure to AI‑enabled engineering workflows, including automation, modern tooling and supporting teams in adopting new ways of working.
* Strong frontend experience with React, Next.js and React Native (or similar).
* Backend/integration experience with Node.js or PHP/Laravel, plus solid understanding of REST APIs and authentication.
* Cloud experience with AWS, including managed hosting, storage and messaging services.
* CI/CD experience (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, etc.), git workflows and observability practices (logging, metrics, tracing) with incident response.
Bonus Points
* Experience in health, aged care or other regulated industries.
* Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2).
* Exposure to Python Notebooks for scripting, automation or data workflows.
* Experience with AWS services, PHP/Laravel and SQL.
* Experience integrating AI capabilities such as chat assistants, semantic search and summarisation.
