Job Description
* Leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organisation's policy governance framework and Quality Management System.
* Oversees the annual policy review cycle and maintains the organisation's central policy register.
* Establishes and manages internal controls and assurance frameworks, including risk‐based monitoring of control effectiveness.
* Conducts assurance reviews, coordinates internal audit activities, and drives timely closure of audit findings.
* Provides data‐informed reporting to senior leadership on policy compliance and internal control performance.
* Identifies systemic gaps and leads initiatives to strengthen governance, risk, and compliance practices.
* Designs and delivers training, communication, and capability‐building programs related to policy and internal controls.
* Advises executive leaders on compliance obligations and supports delivery of the organisation's compliance uplift roadmap.
* Manages, develops, and mentors a direct report, fostering a high‐performance, collaborative, and accountable team culture.
The Successful Applicant
The Policy and Assurance Lead should meet the below criteria-
* A degree or postgraduate qualification in governance, compliance, policy management, internal audit, or a related field - or equivalent extensive experience.
* Strong background in policy governance, with experience developing and maintaining policy frameworks in complex organisations.
* Experience managing or working with Quality Management Systems, ideally aligned with ISO or similar standards.
* Proven ability to design and implement internal control frameworks, including risk‐based monitoring and assurance activities.
* Experience supporting or coordinating internal audits and ensuring timely follow‐through on audit findings and recommendations.
* High‐level analytical capability, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends and provide clear, evidence‐based insights.
* Excellent communication skills, able to translate complex compliance requirements into practical advice for diverse stakeholders.
* Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship‐building skills across both senior leadership and operational teams.
* Demonstrated leadership capability, including mentoring and developing staff and fostering a high‐performance, accountable culture.
* Deep understanding of legislative, regulatory and compliance requirements relevant to the Australian education and training sector.
