Overview
A client is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight across all aspects of their business. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, this role requires a balance of strategic oversight and hands-on leadership to drive growth, efficiency, and client satisfaction.
Base pay range
A$150,000.00/yr - A$220,000.00/yr
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement safety protocols, conduct hazard identification and risk assessments, and lead safety training to ensure employee wellbeing.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management to build and maintain a skilled workforce.
- Deliver revenue and growth targets.
- Establish and monitor financial milestones and KPIs aligned with growth objectives.
- Identify new business opportunities and collaborate with Business Development, Estimating, and Project Delivery teams.
- Provide regular performance reporting and strategic planning support to the Board of Directors.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to senior management including Business Development and Project Managers.
- Manage stakeholder communications and relationships, conduct performance evaluations, and support governance.
- Lead budgeting, financial planning, and oversee accounts payable and receivable activities.
- Provide strategic direction for marketing initiatives, collaborate on branding and promotional activities, and develop sales strategies.
- Lead procurement, vendor management, workshop equipment procurement, and subcontractor relationships.
- Oversee daily workshop operations, manufacturing processes, equipment maintenance, production scheduling, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations including WHS, SCA standards, ISO requirements, and manage the SCA CC2 certification process.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ recent experience in a similar role within the Structural Steel Fabrication industry working with Tier 2–Tier 3 construction builders.
- Strong knowledge of Australian construction and engineering compliance requirements.
- Trade or tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Project Management, Manufacturing, or relevant industry experience.
- Ability to manage communications with offshore manufacturing facilities.
- Collaborative and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and effective in fast-paced environments.
- Proficient in reading and explaining engineering drawings.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, MRP, and ERP systems.
- Sound financial acumen including budgeting, financial analysis, and cost management.
- Strategic thinker with proven ability to drive business growth and operational excellence.
