The Program
Red Cross assists people in times of need by providing a range of low‐cost mobility equipment and personal care aids for short‐term hire, to assist people in their home environment.
The Opportunity
As a Mobility Equipment Hire Service (MEHS) volunteer, you will be the first point of contact for clients seeking mobility equipment. You'll bring excellent communication skills and an understanding and empathy for people from diverse backgrounds.
The volunteer will be responsible for:
* Responding to enquiries
* Identifying and providing customers with the most appropriate short‐term hire mobility aids
* Maintaining and carrying out equipment cleaning and servicing requirements
* Completing hire and return procedures
* Assisting customers to identify the most appropriate mobility aid in conjunction with their referral
* Providing customers with guidelines for the correct use of the mobility aid/s
* Communicating with clients one‐to‐one, respecting the client's right to confidentiality
* Contributing positively to workplace health and safety practices including maintenance and cleaning (health permitting)
* Ensuring open, professional, positive, respectful and constructive communication in all interactions
* Completing the associated paperwork and processing payments
* Participating in orientation and training sessions
* Assisting the Rockhampton Branch President with administrative duties associated with Branch activities
The Impact
As a volunteer, you will ensure people have access to the equipment needed for their recovery, helping them to maintain their independence and alleviating some of the pressures they face while managing their health.
Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the world's largest humanitarian network.

* For this role you will be required to undertake a National Police Check, organised through Red Cross.
