Scientific Leadership Role in Biochemistry
The Principal Scientist provides strategic scientific oversight of laboratory operations.
This senior role is responsible for ensuring accurate and efficient test performance, managing workflow and staff, and fostering professional development within the team.
The appointee will uphold high standards of scientific excellence, guide the laboratory's technical direction, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and mentorship.
About the Position:
* Responsible for operational functions of the laboratory.
* Provides leadership and strategic guidance within the laboratory.
* Ensures that customer requirements are satisfactorily delivered.
* Prioritises activities of employees, ensuring service delivery and system enhancements are satisfied or completed in a timely manner.
* Develops and implements new services, standard of care testing, and increases capacity using new technologies.
* In conjunction with Pathology Leadership ascertains priorities and develops strategies for innovation and advancement in service delivery.
Key Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in science or applied science, or an equivalent qualification.
* Fellowship (AACB/AIMS/ASM) or PhD in relevant discipline.
* Experience in managing a comprehensive range of tests and medical laboratory experience.
* Minimum of 10 years' relevant medical laboratory experience.
Essential Skills and Experience:
* Training and experience in personnel management.
* Demonstrated resource management skills.
* Extensive experience as a laboratory leader and senior scientist in service provision and research.
* Ability to manage NATA accredited laboratories and maintain accreditation.
* Leadership capability and proven track record in designing and implementing new services.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Peer-reviewed publications in disciplines of direct importance to Unit.
