Join the crew of STS Leeuwin II — Western Australia's iconic tall ship — and use your engineering expertise to help inspire and develop young leaders at sea.

As the vessel's Engineer (MED2), you'll be responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all engineering systems aboard our sail training ship — including propulsion, generators, hydraulics, electrical, refrigeration, and plumbing systems.
This is a hands‑on and strategic role, combining technical precision with leadership. You'll also lead the development and implementation of the vessel's Engineering Manual, a key project ensuring consistency, compliance, and operational excellence for years to come.

What You'll Do

* Operate, maintain, and monitor all engineering systems including main engine, generators, and auxiliaries
* Lead the development and implementation of the STS Leeuwin II Engineering Manual
* Lead maintenance programs and keep detailed logs under the vessel's Planned Maintenance System (PMS)
* Conduct fault‑finding, diagnostics, and emergency repairs at sea and alongside
* Manage bunkering, fuel, oil, and freshwater systems in accordance with MARPOL and environmental policies
* Oversee inventories, spares, and workshop organisation
* Support vessel readiness, refit projects, and contractor coordination
* Maintain compliance with AMSA and SMS requirements, including safety and environmental documentation
* Supervise and train volunteers or trainees assisting with engineering tasks
* Contribute to the positive, inclusive onboard culture that defines Leeuwin voyages


About You

You're a capable and resourceful marine engineer who thrives in dynamic, hands‑on environments. You take pride in safe, efficient operations and enjoy being part of a small, close‑knit team working toward a shared purpose.


You'll need:

* AMSA Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 (minimum)
* AMSA Certificate of Medical Fitness
* AMSA Certificate of Safety Training (We are willing to invest in the right candidate, and we will cover the costs associated with this training)
* Current First Aid and CPR
* WA Working with Children Check


You'll also bring:
