The ACT Government is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced executive to fill the position of Commissioner for Sustainability and the Environment for a term of up to five years. The Commissioner for Sustainability and the Environment is an independent statutory position established by the Commissioner for Sustainability and the Environment Act 1993 (the Act) and responsible for: Receiving and investigating complaints on the management of the environment by the Territory and issues relating to ecologically sustainable development in the ACT Conducting investigations as directed by the Minister or self-referred Preparing the State of the Environment Report for each reporting period Overseeing the operation of the Office for the Commissioner of the Sustainability and the Environment Delivering an Annual Report for the Office for the Commissioner of the Sustainability and the Environment Appearing at Legislative Assembly Committee Inquiries Desired skills and experience: Environmental or related qualifications and experience Knowledge and understanding of sustainability and the environment challenges and opportunities, particularly as they apply in the ACT Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders Analytical and problem-solving capability with a focus on developing and delivering practical solutions to complex problems The Commissioner for Sustainability and the Environment must undertake the functions and responsibilities of the role in accordance with the provisions of the Commissioner for the Sustainability and the Environment Act 1993 and all associated legislation. Remuneration: The position attracts a remuneration package ranging from $354,217 - $365,159 depending on current superannuation arrangements of the successful applicant. This includes a cash component of $312,637. Appointment: The successful applicant will be appointed for a period of up to five years and the appointment instrument will be available on the Legislation Register. Prospective applicants should be aware that this is a Ministerial appointment, which requires Cabinet approval. The appointment will also require consultation with the relevant ACT Legislative Assembly Standing Committee. The appointment is a disallowable instrument that is tabled in the Legislative Assembly. Note: The Commissioner role is a full-time position however subject to negotiation with the Territory may be undertaken on a part-time basis.
