Overview
The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering ( TFOME ) team at the NASA Glenn Research Center provides engineering and technical services in aeropropulsion and space propulsion and power test facilities. TFOME management is dedicated to service excellence and providing outstanding technical opportunities for our employees. We specialize in delivering unique products and services to NASA Glenn. We are currently seeking an Electrical Test Engineer to support facility and test engineering as part of the TFOME contract at NASA Glenn Research, focusing on aeronautics testing areas.
Responsibilities
Function of Position
Performs work involving study, design, implementation, and project management of electrical, instrumentation, control, and data systems for facilities, test apparatus, and hardware/software.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Designs and develops electronic circuits, controls, data and instrumentation hardware, subsystems, and systems for specialty process systems, aerospace hardware, and test rigs. Integrates sensors for pressure, temperature, cryogenics, flow, stress-strain, proximity, and level measurement into process and test hardware.
* Provides technical expertise in programming, setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of PC/Unix systems, data acquisition systems, and PLCs.
* Guides electronics technicians and electricians in installation, calibration, troubleshooting, and operation of electrical and instrumentation hardware and systems.
* Develops and updates schematics, drawings, calibration documentation, procedures, and quality control documentation (ISO 9001).
* Prepares purchase requisitions and specifications, evaluates vendor proposals, and makes technical procurement recommendations.
* Supports test operations, including control, instrumentation, and data systems management.
* Designs and maintains TCP/IP communication networks.
* Provides training support for engineers and technicians.
* Develops plans for upgrading Data Acquisition Systems and software.
* Supports detailed engineering analyses for special tasks.
* Prepares and presents technical documentation for design reviews and safety reviews.
* Integrates controls and instrumentation into PLC hardware/software.
* Designs and specifies instrumentation and signal conditioning equipment, ensuring integration with data acquisition systems.
Qualifications
* B.S. or higher in Electrical or Electronic Engineering/Technology.
* Knowledge of combustion facilities, rotating machinery, fuels, process systems, hydraulic systems, wind tunnels, or propulsion test facilities is a plus.
* Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in teams are essential.
* Some shift and/or weekend work may be required due to testing nature.
