The Media Entertainment & Arts Alliance is the union and leading advocate for workers in the creative and media sectors. It represents performers, journalists and all other workers in the creative and media industries and has over 15,000 members.

Our Members

Our members include people working in television, radio, theatre and film, entertainment venues and recreation grounds, as journalists, actors, dancers, sportspeople, cartoonists and photographers, orchestral and opera performers, as well as people working in public relations, advertising, book publishing and website production.

Our Locations and Staffing

The MEAA national office is in Redfern in Sydney.

There are branch offices located in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth.

This role is based in MEAA's Redfern office.

MEAA is moving towards industry wide organising, because our members are stronger together. This role provides opportunities to work with a range of members including performers, journalists, musicians and entertainment crew.

This role would suit an experienced union organiser, delegate or community/campaigns organiser keen to work on issues of economic justice.

* Organising and recruiting workers according to Union plans and as directed.
* Building and maintaining union leadership structures in workplaces, across industry sectors and geographic regions.
* Assisting member and leadership development plans and activities
* Assisting members, delegates, leaders and others with campaigns and related negotiations
* Assisting delegates and members address workplace based problems and grievances, including by appropriate direction to specialist assistance.

Preferred skills, attributes and experience

* Well developed organising skills including the ability to recruit and organise new members.
* Understanding, knowledge and some experience of union development and adult learning principles and practices.
* Some experience with negotiation, workplace leadership and advocacy
* Ability to use and experience with digital organising practices and techniques.
* Ability to work in a team environment
* Commitment to trade union principles and workers' rights

Details

The position is available on a full-time permanent basis with a package dependent on skills and experience. Benefits include 13% employer contribution to superannuation, 5 weeks annual leave each year, 1 RDO every 4 weeks, plus an additional 3 days leave between Christmas and New Year. Salary sacrificing is available.
