About the Role
As the Building Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate, commercially sound estimates across commercial building and facilities management works. The role will involve a mix of tendered projects, with the occasional requirement to identify, develop, and refine project scope, ensuring solutions are aligned with required outcomes while balancing cost, quality, and delivery expectations.
This is a hands‐on role with real influence, supporting both tendered and relationship-based projects. You will work closely with clients and internal teams to assist in clearly defining project scope and, where required, help build or shape the scope to achieve the desired outcome, including educating clients on technical, compliance, or delivery considerations they may not be aware of. You will manage client expectations throughout the scoping and estimating process, deliver quotes within agreed timeframes, and ensure all pricing is issued in line with internal deadlines and tender due dates.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare accurate and timely estimates for commercial building works, including refurbishments, remedial works, and minor capital projects
* Review and interpret drawings, scopes, specifications, and site conditions to ensure accurate pricing and risk identification
* Source, assess, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing to achieve commercially sound outcomes
* Develop cost plans aligned with client budgets, project requirements, and company margin expectations
* Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-effective alternatives where appropriate
* Clearly communicate inclusions, exclusions, assumptions, risks, and pricing methodologies within estimates and tenders
* Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients to support successful tendering and project delivery
* Develop and manage effective working relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure reliable pricing and delivery
* Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders throughout the estimating and tender process
* Conduct thorough handovers of awarded projects to Project Managers, ensuring clear understanding of scope, assumptions, inclusions, exclusions, and how the project has been priced to be delivered
* Support project delivery by assisting with the pricing of variations or scope changes as required, ensuring commercial and contractual alignment
* Maintain well‐organised estimating records, documentation, and supporting information
About You
* Proven experience as a Building Estimator (commercial construction and/or Facilities Management)
* Strong understanding of pricing, margins, and cost control
* Ability to work in fast‐paced environments with changing priorities
* Confident communicator with a client‐focused mindset
* Strong attention to detail with a practical, solutions‐driven approach
* Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously
* Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in ambiguous or "grey" environments, applying commercial judgement and experience to develop practical, buildable solutions
