Role

A Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) – Adult Acute Care is a registered nurse/midwife with at least 5 years full‑time equivalent post‑registration experience and approved or advancing post‑registration qualifications relevant to the field. The CNC is responsible for the provision, maintenance and ongoing development of acute inpatient services for patients of the Royal Hospital for Women.

The CNC reports to the Manager of the Close Observation Unit, Antenatal and Pregnancy Day Stay Services and works closely with the Directors of Anaesthetics, Obstetric Medicine, Nursing Unit Managers of Gynaecology, Gynaecological Oncology, Anaesthetic Fellows and registrars.

Key responsibilities include integrating acute clinical assessments across wide services, coordinating an effective emergency response system (adult resuscitation, CPR, management of acute collapse), participating in scenario‑driven training for maternal collapse and cardio‑pulmonary resuscitation, and supporting staff training throughout the SESLHD Network on acute emergencies affecting women (e.g., ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, massive blood transfusion).

Additional duties involve ongoing development of policy, procedure research and quality activities within the Acute Care Service, data collection, liaison with medical and nursing colleagues, and planning of equipment requirements for resuscitation and acutely ill patients.

* Minimum of five years full‑time equivalent post‑graduate qualification experience.
* Minimum of 1 year's experience in an intensive or high dependency setting.
* Demonstrated effective communication and inter‑personal skills across a variety of mediums and knowledge of the practice development framework to clinical practice.
* Demonstrated involvement in the development/change of clinical practice underpinned by evidence based research.
* Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service planning.
* Proven skills in clinical teaching, the identification of education needs in the clinical area, and competency in the use of contemporary information systems.
* Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
