Travelling Utility Service Technician – Chinchilla/Western Downs
Based in Toowoomba with a 9-day fortnight and regular travel to support Tesla’s utility-scale battery storage sites across the Chinchilla/Western Downs region. The role is field-based with a strong presence in Chinchilla and surrounding areas, focusing on the Tesla Megapack battery storage product. The position will primarily be based within the Chinchilla/Western Downs region, with occasional travel to support other regional sites as required.

Position Description / Responsibilities
As an Electrical Technician, you will troubleshoot and repair equipment as defined by the service engineering team. You will perform complex and precise electro-mechanical debugging, rework, and repairs, executing tasks that require a high level of skill and patience. Your role will involve actively working across Powerpack and Megapack Utility sites to ensure that operations and maintenance requirements are met, maintaining a healthy fleet that performs optimally. You will operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and LV/MV/HV testing equipment for effective diagnosis and troubleshooting. You will develop and adhere to best practices and procedures for various maintenance activities related to Tesla Energy equipment. Transparent communication is essential, as you will maintain high levels of communication and feedback within the Tesla Energy service organization by preparing daily updates on work completed, problems identified, and future timelines.
Flexibility is key, as you may be required to provide support outside your region and potentially internationally. You may perform other related duties as assigned to accommodate growth and diversification across applications.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience, with at least 3 years’ electrical maintenance experience, ideally within the Utility sector (Solar/Wind/Transmission experience is preferred)
- Must have up-to-date Electrical Registration/License
- Must have HV switching experience
- SCADA operating experience is a plus
- Must be able to work from complex and detailed documentation and/or verbal and written instructions depending on situation
- Strong computer skills, ability to utilise proprietary and 3rd party OEM software
- Ability to read and understand manufacturing instructions, electrical diagrams, and mechanical drawings
- Willingness to work outdoors, occasionally on the road at unusual hours
- Valid driver’s license
- Knowledge of operation and maintenance of a wide variety of hand and power tools, shop tools, test equipment
