Our client, a large Federal Government organisation responsible for health research, funding, promotion, and regulation, is seeking an experienced Lead Data Scientist to support the development of AI/ML tools and deliver data-driven solutions that enhance decision-making across the organisation.
Duties of the Lead Data Scientist
* Lead the design, development, and deployment of data science solutions;
* Drive strategic projects involving data ingestion and curation, exploratory data analysis, natural language processing, use of generative AI (including agent-based generative AI), predictive and prescriptive modelling, development of self-service solutions, and delivery of ad-hoc data science reports;
* Coordinate and collaborate with other teams and staff to design and develop standardised, transferrable and reusable methods and code;
* Perform bespoke analytics at short notice on a wide array of datasets;
* Use customer-centred approaches to design and prototype new technologies, tools, and methods in secure environments;
* Work closely with business users and IT service providers to select suitable technologies and deliver and improve analytical solutions.
Skills and Experience Required
* Experience with generative AI (including agent-based generative AI), prompt engineering, evaluation of AI outputs;
* Understanding of AI ethics, bias, risk and output evaluation frameworks;
* Experience working with both structured and unstructured data, with a strong grasp of data engineering principles for building and maintaining reliable ETL pipelines;
* Proficiency in programming language(s) with a focus on Python and SQL for applications in data science, data engineering, and/or software development;
* Tertiary qualification or background in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data/ML/Cloud Engineering or similar discipline.
