Medical Laboratory Technician – Somatic Cancer Sample Coordinator at NSW Health Pathology. Permanent Full Time position based at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Applications Close: 22 September 2025 - 11:59pm.
We're looking for a highly organised and proactive Medical Laboratory Technician (Sample Coordinator) to support vital cancer diagnostic services that make a real impact on patient care. You'll be the key liaison between internal and external clients, ensuring timely delivery and retrieval of samples for somatic cancer DNA testing. The role is hands‑on with sample preparation (FFPE DNA extraction), data entry into our centralised lab information system, and urgent result distribution to clinical teams. General administrative support is also part of the day‑to‑day.
What You'll Be Doing
* Coordinate sample collection for the cancer somatic mutation DNA testing service.
* Perform a range of laboratory investigations and tests (manual and automated) following established methods and procedures.
* Prepare materials and maintain equipment in line with laboratory processes, procedures and protocols.
* Undertake general administrative tasks and data entry related to the laboratory information systems and workflow.

Responsibilities
* Coordinate sample collection for the cancer somatic mutation DNA testing service.
* Undertake laboratory duties including preparation of materials and maintenance of equipment.
* Accurate data entry and timely distribution of results to clinical teams.
Qualifications
* Minimum qualification of Diploma in Laboratory Technology or equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to pathology or medical laboratory operations.
* Knowledge and experience in delivery of pathology services, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Systems.
* Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines; work in a team and autonomously to deliver results.
* Strong customer focus with well‑developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
* Analytical skills and initiative to apply established principles in a pathology laboratory and resolve issues.
* Commitment to quality management and continuous improvement.
* Understanding of cancer somatic mutation testing and strong administrative and organisational skills for urgent DNA testing coordination.

* Salary: $65,956.84 - $94,999.44 per annum plus superannuation
