About UQU The University of Queensland Union (UQU) is a not-for-profit organisation working to create the ultimate campus experience for the University of Queensland (UQ) student community. UQU offers a range of student support services including advocacy, legal advice and sponsorship of over 190 clubs and societies for UQ students. What you'll do As an Academic & Education Advocate at UQU, you will make a difference in the lives and university experience of UQ students. You'll provide confidential advice & assistance to students relating to a range of academic & equity issues or concerns. A central part of your role involves advising students and advocating for the interests of students to ensure optimal and fair outcomes from UQ’s various student-centred policies and procedures. You'll also get the chance to work as part of a holistic service with a cross-disciplinary advocacy team and will work alongside some other advocates in areas ranging from Welfare, International Student support, Legal, and more. You'll also engage in important advocacy activities, including: Preparing resources, reports, position papers & submissions Engaging in community development and community education initiatives and events Build meaningful and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders at the University and beyond Contribute to service delivery improvements and best practice recommendations Important details: Based from UQ St Lucia campus, with occasional travel to other UQ campus locations. This is a part time (0.8 FTE; 30.4 hours per week) role. Is this you? You are passionate about making a positive contribution to students’ ability to manage the complexities of University life. You also have a strong understanding of appropriate behaviours when dealing with young people regardless of their background or diversity of need, and you have a natural and recognised ability to deal with complex issues confidentially and with sensitivity. Additionally, you will have: Bachelor's degree, equivalent or higher. Well suited to those qualified in psychology, social work, law, education, policy or similar disciplines. Professional experience within the tertiary or wider education sector, including a demonstrated ability to understand education sector policies, regulations and structures and interpret them to a student clientele. Demonstrated understanding of the higher education, community or student organisation sector. Experience in complex client support or case management (highly regarded). Strong sense of customer service & good service delivery. Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team. Strong judgement & critical thinking skills; ability to effectively problem solve. A valid working with children check (QLD Blue card), and The ability to travel between campuses when required (valid drivers licence) Interested in learning more?
