Planning Officer
Our client is seeking a proactive and organised Planning Officer to support the coordination and administration of the Development Application (DA) process. This role contributes to our client's strategic, operational and development objectives and is well suited to a graduate or early‐career planner looking to build experience in a complex statutory environment.
About the Role
Reporting to the Planning team, you will assist in the assessment and processing of development applications and provide administrative and coordination support across a range of planning activities. You will liaise with internal and external stakeholders and help ensure planning processes are delivered efficiently and professionally.
Key Responsibilities
* Respond to enquiries from visitors, clients and stakeholders via phone, email and in person in a professional and customer‐focused manner
* Assist with the receipting, assessment, processing and determination of development applications
* Support internal and external communications related to planning matters
* Prepare draft planning approval documentation and correspondence
* Support formal meetings with applicants and stakeholders
* Assist with the management of condition‐clearing activities before and after approved works
* Assist with the coordination of site investigation activities
* Undertake general administrative support tasks related to planning and development activities
Qualifications & Experience
* A qualification in Planning or a related discipline
* Some experience in statutory and/or strategic planning (desirable)
* Exposure to port, land use or transport planning will be viewed favourably
Skills & Capabilities
* Strong conceptual, research and analytical skills
* Ability to manage a diverse range of tasks concurrently and meet deadlines
* Developing knowledge of State and Local Government planning processes, legislation and regulations, including the Planning and Development Act 2005 and Port Authorities Act 1999
* Developed written and verbal communication skills
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
* Well‐developed organisational skills and attention to detail
* Strong interpersonal skills with a customer‐focused approach
* Proficient computer skills, including the Microsoft Office suite
