About the role
Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) delivers a comprehensive range of public health services across the Nepean, Blue Mountains, and Lithgow Regions. Hawkesbury District Health Service is a teaching hospital offering 24‑hour emergency, medical, surgical, diagnostic, maternity, neonatal, paediatric, palliative, intensive, and coronary care services. This role operates on a rotating seven‑day roster, covering weekday afternoon and night shifts, and full weekend shifts.
The After‑Hours Nurse Manager provides operational oversight and support outside of standard business hours, ensuring effective use of resources, particularly Nursing and Midwifery Services. The role is a key leadership position that maintains high standards of patient care and service delivery during after‑hours periods.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate 24‑hour shift service in rotation.
- Lead nursing and midwifery teams during after‑hours.
- Manage resources, staffing and bed allocation.
- Implement patient flow and bed‑management strategies.
- Resolve complex problems and coordinate with clinical and corporate teams.
- Drive continuous improvement and promote evidence‑based practice.
What You Bring
- Registered Nurse (AHPRA) with current registration.
- Tertiary qualification in management or extensive post‑graduate clinical experience in an acute setting.
- Solid leadership, motivation, delegation and negotiation skills.
- Proven ability to lead change and deliver professional development.
- Computer literacy – staff scheduling systems (HealthRoster) and Patient Flow Portal.
- Knowledge of HAT, bed management and patient flow objectives.
- Ability to prioritise complex situations and manage HR and industrial relations matters.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
