We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Administrator to play a pivotal role in designing, operating, and modernising our IT infrastructure while helping shape a scalable, secure, and automated Technology Operations capability.
This is a hands‐on senior technical role with clear scope to influence how IT services are delivered today, and strong future potential to progress into people leadership.
Your new role
As a Senior Systems Administrator, you will be responsible for the stability, security, and continuous improvement of AFG's on‐prem, cloud, and hybrid environments. A key focus of the role is reducing manual effort through automation, maturing service desk processes, and establishing robust, repeatable standards across infrastructure and end‐user computing.
You'll act as a technical authority and escalation point, working closely with Cloud Engineering, Cyber Security, and the broader Technology team to ensure systems are reliable, well‐documented, and fit for a growing organisation.
What you'll do
* Manage and optimise on‐prem, cloud, and hybrid infrastructure across servers, storage, networks, and end‐user environments
* Monitor system performance and availability, delivering patching, upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery
* Design and implement automation for service desk processes, including onboarding/offboarding, access management, and self‐service solutions
* Develop scripts and workflows using tools such as PowerShell, Python, and Microsoft Power Automate
* Define and maintain a standardised SOE across Windows and Mac, leveraging Intune and Iru for device management
* Support Microsoft 365, Azure, and IAM platforms, ensuring secure access and compliance with security standards
* Act as a senior technical escalation point, mentor team members, and maintain clear technical documentation
* Drive continuous improvement through automation, standardisation, and modernisation initiatives
What you'll bring
* Proven experience in a senior systems administration role within complex on‐premises and cloud environments
* Strong expertise across Microsoft technologies, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft 365, and Azure
* Hands‐on experience managing Windows and Mac devices using Intune and Iru
* Demonstrated success delivering automation for IT service desk and operational processes
* Solid understanding of IT security principles, including IAM, MFA, endpoint security, and vulnerability management
* Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively with minimal supervision
* Clear communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non‐technical stakeholders
