Job Description
The Australian Financial Review has an exciting opportunity for a full-time home page editor to join the digital team. The successful candidate will have excellent news judgement with the ability to make editorial decisions for AFR.com, the iPhone and Android apps. You will be able to edit, produce, and optimise content for the homepage, social channels and search to maximise audience engagement. You will also be able to select and publish breaking news wires, write breaking stories and live blog.
Day to day, you will:
1. Run the home page
2. Edit and publishing stories, including breaking news
3. Post on social channels
4. Curate and send newsletters
5. Attend and contribute to news conferences
6. Create gifs and composites using Canva
Some night and weekend work will be required.
Qualifications
The successful applicant will have:
7. Excellent news judgement and the ability to make editorial decisions quickly
8. A passion for breaking news, especially in business, finance and politics
9. Digital production skills including writing headlines, photo selection and copy editing
10. A strong ability to sell stories on the home page and other platforms
11. Ability to understand real-time data to maximise audiences at key traffic times
12. Ability to work with editors and journalists to best distribute content
13. Photo, video editing and AI experience is a plus
