The Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Principal Financial Compliance Accountant to strengthen our financial governance and compliance framework. This senior role is pivotal in ensuring the integrity of DHS’s financial reporting and adherence to government standards.
Reporting to the Manager, Financial Compliance and Accounting Services, you will lead critical initiatives including year-end financial statements and audits, drive business improvement reviews, and provide expert advice on complex accounting treatments. Your work will shape robust financial processes and policies that support accurate, timely, and compliant statutory reporting across the Department.
In this role, you will oversee the preparation and quality review of statutory reports and financial statements to meet key government deadlines. You will conduct high-level reviews and investigations on strategic and sensitive compliance matters, recommending corrective actions and improvements. You will also prepare ministerial briefings, audit responses, and other key documentation, while building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support departmental objectives. Additionally, you will lead and mentor team members, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Experience:
The successful candidate will hold a relevant degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, or a closely related discipline. Ideally, they will have also completed professional qualifications offered by CPA Australia or the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) or equivalent.
