Position Purpose
The Respiratory Scientist supports the specialist and research team by conducting Upper Airway Respiratory Testing. In addition, the role will support assigned clinical trials to ensure Sydney, Ear Nose and Throat Clinic retains its exceptional reputation as being at the forefront of upper respiratory research.
Organisational Context
Sydney Ear Nose and Throat Clinic delivers comprehensive specialist medical/surgical services in adult and children's ENT care. In addition, onsite allergy and airway testing is offered through The NoseLab. The NoseLab utilises the most up-to-date technology and equipment for allergy and airway testing. The NoseLab runs activities across several medical practices in the Eastern and Southern suburbs.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical roles
Undertake airway, allergy, smell and taste testing assessments as required in accordance with the Clinic's standard testing procedures.
Ensure prior to any assessment that the procedure has been clearly explained to the patient and that required consent documentation has been signed.
Co-ordination of immunotherapy and biologic interventions initiated by specialists
Support research activities
Ensure Clinical trial activities are conducted in line with GCP guidelines where relevant.
Assist in the preparation of trial related documentation (protocols, consent documents), potential patient recruitment, conduction of study visits, data collection and database entry.
Oversee completion of clinical trials with either university, pharma or device companies as delegated.
Manage relationships with Human Research Ethics Committees as required.
Ensure the highest standards of Patient Confidentiality are maintained.
Attend a once a fortnight research meeting on Wednesday 17:*****:00hrs
Health and Safety
Adopt safe work practices that comply with health and safety requirements. You must not wilfully place at risk the health and safety of any other person in the workplace.
Participate in relevant Health and Safety training as required.
Sterilize instruments used for testing in accordance with the Clinic's Standard Operating Procedures.
Key Skills and Attributes
Current part time PhD or Masters Candidate in Medical Science or related field.
Strong attention to detail.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with a range of stakeholders.
Must be comfortable operating in an environment of continuous improvement and comfortable receiving and acting on regular performance feedback.
Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills.
A strong understanding of, or willingness to learn, patient confidentiality and the Privacy Act as it relates to patients.
