Chapter Lead (Engineering Manager), Software Engineering – Business Banking Technology You are passionate about building high-performing engineering cultures. Now, we’re transforming Small Business Banking within NetBank — creating a personalised, modern experience tailored specifically for business customers. This is your opportunity to lead that transformation. See yourself in our team Our Business Banking Technology has a bold vision: to become Australia’s leading digital business bank. We’re rebuilding the Small Business Banking experience in NetBank from the ground up — delivering a differentiated, personalised interface for our customers. We work closely with our business partners to solve meaningful customer problems through strong engineering practices and thoughtful design. As a Chapter Lead, you’ll initially lead a single squad delivering this new experience, with scope to expand across multiple squads as the platform grows. Your impact This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will: Lead and grow a high-performing engineering squad Set the engineering standard — we expect you to be as technically capable as our senior engineers Contribute directly to architecture, design and coding Guide complex technical decisions and design exercises Drive delivery of scalable, secure and customer-centric solutions Foster a culture of humility, openness and high performance Invest in capability uplift, talent retention and career development Balance people leadership with technical excellence We use a broad range of technologies. You don’t need experience in all of them — but strong engineering fundamentals are essential. Our environment includes: Modern web frameworks (e.g. Next.js preferred but not mandatory) RESTful API design (microservices architecture) GraphQL (beneficial but not required) Cloud-native architectures We’re looking for people who Are deeply hands-on engineers who still love being “on the tools” Have experience leading and developing engineers Set a high engineering bar and lead by example Thrive in ambiguity and provide clarity to their teams Welcome differing opinions and foster healthy technical debate If you’re a technically strong engineering leader who thrives on building both systems and people — we’d love to hear from you.
