The Director of National Parks (the Director) is responsible for six national parks, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, 58 Australian Marine Parks and the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Marine Reserve established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Parks Australia is the federal park agency that supports the Director, and they are a division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department). The CFO and Corporate Services Branch supports Parks Australia and the Director with enabling functions. This includes but is not limited to finance, governance, communications, media, Indigenous employment, assets, property, security, procurement, assurance, business continuity and risk. The Finance unit supports the organisation to be efficient, effective and financially sustainable through our strategic and operational activities. The unit provides financial and management advice and support to its branches and executive. The unit delivers on business objectives through the provision of high-quality customer service, advice and support and a consistent approach to financial management, with consideration to the government's tight fiscal environment, its reform agenda and the organisation's imperative to maintain financial sustainability. The Finance unit is responsible for: treasury; financial accounting, including financial statements, taxation, monthly government reporting; budgeting, forecasting, management reporting; and asset management. Your role as an EL1 Finance Business Partner in the Finance unit includes: building and sustaining collaborative relationships with stakeholders across the organisation to help them manage their budgets and achieve their goals, with a focus on providing excellent client service owning the financial story and strategic financial direction of divisions and considering the ramification of issues and long-term impact of decisions using networks across the Corporate Services branch, and broader organisation, to provide the delivery of high-quality service and outcomes, including providing clear and consistent communication supervising team members who work closely with branches providing financial management support, budget and forecast preparation and financial performance monitoring and reporting identify and implement continuous improvement strategies including the ongoing development and maintenance of system, user templates, relevant guidance materials, requirements gathering, business process mapping, product strategy templates supporting tools and fit-for-purpose reporting mechanisms build and sustain collaborative relationships with DCCEEW shared service providers to leverage systems and encourage working efficiently providing advice and support to clients on a range of financial matters. Extensive experience in building collaborative finance partnerships, providing strategic financial advice, identifying risks and opportunities, and linking cost drivers to budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. Experience in preparing reports and briefs that provide clear recommendations on financial and budget management issues, and translating financial data into practical advice for stakeholders. Experience in building and sustaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and leading teams and stakeholders through change collaboratively. Skills and capabilities To be successful for this role you will demonstrate: Capacity to work independently, exercising sound judgment and decision-making when providing expert financial advice. Strong capability in complex financial analysis and problem solving to support strategic and operational decisions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain complex financial matters clearly to diverse audiences. Comprehensive understanding of the Australian Government's financial framework and accrual accounting principles in a public sector context as well as the ability to develop and interpret financial policies and procedures. Flexibility and creativity to manage multiple priorities and deadlines under pressure.
