Working within the Kanji IT Technical Services team, the head of network and systems operations is responsible for the technical services team within Kanji IT. This team is responsible for both the site reliability, as well as project work involved in uplifting our customer bases IT experience. Technical oversight for day-to-day business as usual operations, network and server deployment, management of on-premiss, data centre and cloud workloads, VOIP systems, deployment of new sites and continuous improvement of organisational security are all part of the scope of the role.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Team Management
Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of infrastructure engineers.
Schedule and prioritize tasks to meet operational and project deadlines using Jira and service tickets
Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Mentor and nurture the team to uplift their skills and encourage technical and career growth
Operational Excellence
Ensure smooth execution of daily infrastructure processes and workflows.
Oversee break/fix activities and ensure timely resolution of technical issues.
Manage outages and coordinate incident response across teams.
Work with the team on operational fixes and workload
Strategic Planning
Collaborate with the CTO to plan infrastructure capacity and future growth.
Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve performance and efficiency.
Maintain alignment between infrastructure strategy and business objectives.
Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers.
Ensure SLAs are met and services are delivered to expected standards.
Act as a key point of contact for infrastructure-related escalations.
Maintain and enhance systems using technologies such as:
VMware and other virtualization platforms
SAN (Storage Area Networks)
Routing and Switching (Cisco, Juniper, etc.)
PowerShell and Bash scripting
Docker and container orchestration tools
Ensure systems are secure, resilient, and well-documented.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
8+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering or operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Strong technical background in networking, systems administration (Windows/Linux), and telephony (SIP).
Hands-on experience with VMware, SAN, routing/switching, scripting (PowerShell/Bash), and containerization (Docker).
Proven ability to manage complex projects, incidents, and vendor relationships.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Familiarity with ITIL, DevOps, and SRE practices is highly desirable.
Desirable Skills (Nice to Have):
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
Experience with network automation frameworks.
Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, RHCE, MCSA/MCSE).
